Erb’s Palsy

Erb’s palsy is a form of birth injury that results from stress or damage to the brachial plexus, the nerves which range from the neck through to the arm. When a child passes through the birth canal, there is a chance that he or she may get stuck behind the mother’s cervix which might require some maneuvering by a doctor or nurse. If a doctor is not careful in assisting the baby through the birth canal the brachial plexus may stretch and become severely damaged.
